Divine Hound – Hunter Archetype

Design Notes: converted from Owlcat’s Wrath of the Righteous computer RPG.

Some hunters are less attuned to the essence of the animal kingdom, and exist as justiciars who track down enemies of the natural cycle and punish those who despoil the balance. Together with a faithful tracking hound at his side, the divine hound pursues his quarry and metes out judgement in concert with his companion.

Canine Companion: The divine hound is limited to a riding dog, wolf, or dire wolf as a companion.

Companion Judgment (Su): At 1st level, the divine huntsman gains the inquisitor’s judgment ability, treating his hunter level as his inquisitor level for the progression of this ability.  In addition to himself, all bonuses gained by the selected judgment also affect his companion for the same duration. Should the divine hound die or fall unconscious, his companion loses any current benefits of the judgment. This replaces animal focus.

Second Judgment (Su): At 8th level, the divine huntsman gains the inquisitor’s second judgment ability, with any two selected judgments also granting bonuses to the hunter’s companion. This replaces second animal focus.

Third Judgment (Su): At 16th level, the divine hunstman gains the inquisitor’s third judgement ability, with any three selected judgements also granting bonuses to the hunter’s companion. This replaces one with the wild.

Final Judgment (Su): At 20th level, the divine hound gains the inquisitor’s true judgment ability, but either he, or his companion can attempt to deliver the killing blow. If the companion delivers the attempt, the save DC is based on the higher of the companion’s hit dice + Wisdom modifier or the hunter’s level + Wisdom modifer. Regardless of who deliver’s the final blow, if the target successfully saves against the attempt, it is immune to the ability from either the hunter or companion. This replaces master hunter.
