Planar Guide (Ex): At 1st level, the Riftwarden can spend one hour at the beginning of each day to attune to a planar terrain other than the material plane, and treats it as a favored terrain per the ranger’s Favored Terrain ability. If she already has another class with the Favored Terrain feature, then these class levels stack. At 5th level the bonus to this chosen terrain increases by +2. If she already has the favored terrain ability from another class, this instead grants her the hunting ground ability of the Unchained Ranger if she doesn’t already possess this ability, and her levels stack with other classes to determine her favored terrain bonus at the standard +2/4 progression.

As a move action, the Riftwarden can grant half her favored terrain bonus to all allies within 30 feet who can see or hear her. This bonus lasts for a number of rounds equal to the her primary casting ability modifier (minimum 1). If the Riftwarden is a ranger or other class with the ally bond feature, this move action can be the same action that also grants her favored enemy bonus to the same allies. This bonus does not stack with any favored terrain bonuses possessed by an ally; they use whichever bonus is higher.

Planar Talents: At 1st level, and every level thereafter, the Riftwarden may select one of the talents below to reflect how she specializes in dealing with planar threats. While some act as a bastion upon the prime material plane, others are willing and able to pursue an interloper back to from whence it came. Unless otherwise noted, she may only select a planar talent once.

  • Counter-Summon (Su): The Riftwarden can ready an action to counter any conjuration (summoning) spell or spell-like ability, including an outsider’s summon ability. She must expend a prepared conjuration (summoning) spell (or spell slot) of an equal level to the effective level of the summon countered. At 5th level, this ability can be used as an immediate action, without the need to ready an action beforehand.
  • Counterport (Su): The Riftwarden can ready an action to counterspell a teleportation effect that allows a creature to enter or exit an area within 30 feet of her. She can use Spellcraft to identify a teleportation effect immediately as creatures arrive and can counter the teleportation effect with an identical spell or with any conjuration spell of at least 1 spell level higher; a successful counter returns teleporting creatures to their point of origin. At 5th level, she can use this ability as an immediate action without having to ready beforehand, The Riftwarden must be at least 3rd level and have the Counter-Summon talent to select this talent.
  • Gatecrasher (Su): This talent has two functions. Firstly, a Riftwarden may use an immediate action in attempt to close any attempt by an outsider to open a rift, portal or gate by making a Knowledge (planes) check against a DC equal to 5 + the caster level check of the creature that opened the portal. A successful counter results in the opened portal immediately closing again. Secondly, the Riftwarden may attempt to forcibly open a portal, rift or soulgate previously passed through by an outsider; the DC for her Knowledge (planes) check to do this is 30. If the destination is an aligned plane, the DC is reduced by 5 if the alignment of the plane exactly matches that of the Riftwarden, or increases by 5 for each step the alignment is removed. The Riftwarden must be at least 4th level to select this talent.
  • Planar Envoy (Ex): The Riftwarden gains a competence bonus equal to her class level on any Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Knowledge (planes) or Sense Motive checks against creatures native to one of her favored planar terrains.
  • Favored Enemy (Ex): the Riftwarden chooses one outsider subtype as a favored enemy (as the UnRanger class feature), and gains a favored enemy bonus of +2, increasing to +4 at 5th level. If the Riftwarden already has the favord enemy ability, then she instead gains the UnRanger’s dedicated adversary talent with this chosen enemy, and her class levels stack with other classes that grant a favored enemy bonus in the normal +2/5 progression.
  • Planar Nemesis (Su): The Riftwarden gains a +1 bonus on saving throws against the spells and spell-like, supernatural, and extraordinary abilities of outsiders. In addition, she increases by 1 the save DC and caster level of any spell or spell-like or supernatural ability that she uses against outsiders, or that counters, dispels, or prevents planar travel or teleportation. These bonuses increase to +2 at 4th level.
  • Planar Scourge (Su): An extraplanar creature that fails its save against the Riftwarden’s planar channel gains the shaken or sickened condition, chosen by the Riftwarden, for 1d4 rounds. The Riftwarden may choose to instead halve the damage to make the creature panicked or staggered instead. The Riftwarden must be 3rd level to select this talent.
  • Planar Survival (Ex): The Riftwarden becomes attuned to the nature of the planes other than the material plane that she chooses as her favored terrain and personally immune to their environmental effects — such as the fires of the Plane of Fire, or the chilling cold of the Paraelemental Plane of Ice, or the greying of apathy and hopelessness of Hades. She can attune herself this way for a total number of days equal to her class level, after which she cannot use this ability for 24 hours. Because this extraordinary ability is the result of attuning herself to a particular plane, she remains vulnerable to the same sort of damage in other planes where that sort of effect is not part of the natural order. (For example, having the Elemental Plane of Fire as a favored terrain would make her immune to the “normal” fires of the plane, but fire-based attack forms and unusually fiery areas there still affect her. Fires and firey terrain on other planes, including the Material Plane, affect her normally.) The Riftwarden must be 3rd or higher level to select this talent.
  • Terrain Mastery (Ex): The Riftwarden chooses one plane to gain terrain mastery (as the horizon walker class feature). A Riftwarden must have the appropriate plane as a favored terrain before gaining terrain mastery with it. She may choose this talent more than once.

Planar Channel (Su): At 2nd level, a Riftwarden can channel baneful planar energies against creatures with the extraplanar subtype, regardless of alignment or plane of origin, similar to the cleric’s channel energy ability. The Riftwarden deals damage dice as a cleric of a level equal to her selected spellcasting class level. This energy can only harm, not heal. This ability cannot be used with feats, magic items, etc, that modify the effects of channel energy; however any such feats or items that affect the number of uses or effective caster level of channel energy can apply. A Riftwarden can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her bonus for the relevant ability of the spellcasting class she selected.

Planar Champion (Su): At 5th level, an extraplanar creature that fails its save against a Riftwarden’s planar channel is banished to its home plane (as the banishment spell; no save). Extraplanar creatures with Hit Dice greater than twice the Riftwarden’s class level are unaffected by this ability, but still take damage from planar channel as normal. In addition, as a full-round action, the Riftwarden can expend two uses of her planar channel ability to forcibly recall a creature that used a teleportation or gate effect to exit an area within 30 feet of the Riftwarden since the end of the Riftwarden’s last turn. If the target fails its save, the teleportation effect is reversed and the creature returns to the point from which it teleported (or the nearest available space, if that space is now occupied by another creature), and subsequently damaged by the damage dice of the planar channel. This damage affects only that target, regardless of any other outsiders in the area of affect of the channel.
