Description: When she is lounging at the Cups of Joy teahouse, or in her role as a sacred courtesan of the Sharessan temple, she chooses the form of a curvy Calashite woman. When she goes out she prefers to dress more mundane blending in with local population, but the image of a busty darker, swarthy female is consistent whatever her guise. When she does solo jobs seeking to infiltrate, she often wears sheer golden silks that she wraps around herself until it hides her bits enough for public, and she hides her dagger “Fox’s Wit” within her silks.
Background
Though her origins trace to Shou Lung, Yua has never actually seen the oriental kigdom of her forebears. She was born on the Faerun continent to a kitsune woman who staked her reputation as a killer for hire that relished her trade, part of one of the ancient yakuza clans that held sway in the underworld of the east. Her mother became pregnant while on the mainland pursuing some mark of reknown. After Yua’s birth, her mother settled briefly, but not for long, as her itch for the kill, and the money it brought, brought her back onto the hunt. Yua’s mom would stalk a victim, study them so she knows how they acted, kill them and take over their life, eventually hunting for a new target in order to stay two steps ahead of those who might pursue her. This spree of murderous identity theft took her into Calimport by the time Yua was born. Eventually, Yua was aware of the life her mother lived, and was repulsed by it to the point she stole out on her own — into the harsh and lonely streets of Calimport.
Ironically, she too had to take advantage of her natural abilities for disguise and trickery in order to survive on the streets, and she grew to resent her form and her bloodline, even though it granted her such success. She flitted from one scam to the other, taking the guise of anything from lowly street waifs, to highbrow courtesans to wile her way into temporary lodging, and into others’ purses. The more successful at the ruse, the more recklessly confident in her ability she became
It seemed like the perfect ploy to impersonate one of the concubines one of the many Pashas in Calimport, really. She thought it would easy pickings for the untold wealth that lie in the palace of the Pasha Alim el Tehibi. That went south due to one errant flaw in her mannerism one night as she lay with the Magistrate of the Hook Ward. A furtive retreat had left the fox girl only a few measures ahead of the guards that pursued her. She ran until she found the most convenient place of refuge — which happened to be the high temple of Sharess, with its doors wide open. She ducked inside, seeking sanctuary, which the Madame of the festhall, Naleeah, granted her, sending the guards away. Yua was offered the option of safe, secret passage out of Calimport by night, or to remain in the temple as a safe haven. Drawn and curious by the sights of decadence therein, and how genuinely happy the courtesans of the festhall seemed, she was drawn to it. The idea of having to sleep around and thieve for random and often meager trappings quickly paled in the light of such opulent surroundings as the Festhall of Eternal Delight. Eventually, she came to know of the Goddess who sponsored the temple, and eventually, she came to meet Naleeah’s former star pupil, Serra.
Serra became fast fond of the changeling, and regularly steals her away from the life of a sacred courtesan to introduce her to a world of well-intended subterfuge at the Cups of Joy. In the guildhall of goodly rogues, Yua has her skills as a spy honed, and put to the test, and used for the benefit of the greater good of the common folk.
