Deity: Agnostic
Background
In her home upon the plane of Limbo, Khanaya grew up in the monastic stronghold of Zerth’Ad’lun. The monastics of the stronghold are typically taken in from their youth, and trained to live a stoic life, in the quest of perfection of self, both in mind and body. It is taught that in this perfection — in the knowledge of self — that they will come to predict the very circumstances around them. Khanaya was one of these. She was raised from a youth in the ways of the Sensei, and rose quickly in the ranks as a star pupil. She excelled not only in her physical prowess, but in her awareness; and she showed a thirst for knowledge, and a penchant for sharing of that knowledge. She quickly progressed in her training such that she was often sent out as an apprentice to emissaries for the stronghold to locales such as Sigil, where the Gith conduct trade (often in the currency of intelligence and secrets) with other planars. During these liaisons, she developed even more of a curiosity of so many sentient beings, so different from her own kind, yet similar. Sigil and the lands of Concordant Opposition offered a plethora of culture and beings to tempt anyone so curious, and Khanaya likely could have been content never going beyond this common ground between the planes, but events transpiring in the cosmos drew her kith’s attention elsewhere, to the prime.
The strongholds of the Gith, particularly that of Zerthimon, were not ignorant of the disturbances that caused the rifts from the realm of the Far into the Primes, and as the incursion grew, their concern did as well. There is no love lost between the Githzerai and harbingers of Chaos of any sort, and so they monitored what transpired from their refuge.
While the Githzerai are not renowned for intervention in the affairs of other beings, they did understand the potential ramifications of the Far gaining footholds in the Primes – more bases of operation for a foe, mean more resources to build their strength. Thus, it was decided by the elders of Zerth’Ad’lun to send emissaries to the primes to gain intelligence, influence, and knowledge of the activities of these interlopers.
As zealous as she is curious, Khanaya offered to serve, and she was given the assignment to come to Toril. Here she would be charged with collecting as much knowledge as she could about the Far incursion, to impart her own knowledge and wisdom for dealing with beings of chaos to those upon the prime who would not scorn or squander it, and to ultimately being back to her stronghold news of the incursion’s thwarting, and not to return until she could deliver news that the Far’s corruption had been cleansed from Toril’s prime.
However, she found herself without a means of return to her home realm after the closing of the rifts to the prime, and the Etherquake that followed shortly thereafter which briefly disrupted any and all forms of ethereal travel — and erased the doorway she had originally used to enter Toril. Now she is Toril’s captive guest, wandering until she finds a way to return.
Personality
Khanya is pragmatic to a fault, stoic beyond the grasp of any primer human. She’s not easily prodded to any course of action, that isn’t undoubtedly for the sake of preservation, or of gaining knowledge. For that — not only the knowledge of herself but the many curiosities of a brave new world before her — she will drink in with abandon, and do whatever she deems practical, but not reckless. She’s not unaware that she’s still a fledgling of her disciplines in many ways, so she’s prone to underestimating herself than the other extreme.
Human-kith — which for her is pretty much any primer that’s not a Gith — are a true curiosity for her. She may come across to them as aloof, but she will eagerly learn about other racial cultures. She still has a lot to learn about being a diplomat, but at least she’s humble. She actually has a benevolent streak; she just doesn’t realize it yet.
Goals
Her primary goal is to gather information and assist how she may in the incursion of the Far into the prime. Her personal goal is to learn more about this new realm she has voluntarily thrust herself into and its denizens.
Plot hooks. Misc facts
- Anything dealing in the Far Realm is going to be a situation she jumps at taking part. If she finds herself getting too attached to these primal folk as she learns more about them, she might end up being sought out by her elders for getting too invested into her mission.
- Further, if there shall be Far-tainted areas left behind from the past plot events as there has been discussion of, it really means she never gets to leave Toril.
