Description

Alexis appears to be a regular woman in her early 40s. Her hair, which in her youth had been black with silver highlights, is starting to go gray. She doesn’t look much like a warrior, though her arms are strong enough to swing a hammer, anybody who watches her move would note that she has the grace of a one legged cow. She can normally be seen in blue and white robes and tunics, a black wizard’s hat, and carrying a staff with a blue crystal atop it. She wears a pair of silver spectacles, and around her neck she often wears a silver chain with a small holy symbol of Mystra.

Biography

Alexis was born on Kythorn 16, 1343 DR, in the city of Waterdeep, with her twin sister Sarah. Her father was Max Ironston, a bard who made a living as a merchant and thief up and down the sword coast. Her mother, Cassandra Trent, was a priestess of Sune. The children were not planned, and the parents fought for who would take the children, and they agreed to each take one, Max taking Sarah, and Cassandra taking Alexis.

Alexis was raised in a wealthy home, the youngest of Cassandra’s children, as she had three other daughters from three previous marriages. Each one of Cassandra’s previous husbands had been madly in love with her, married, gave her a child, and then died in accidents, leaving her vast sums of gold. To the public, she was a very charismatic, very sympathetic woman, who still believed in love in spite of all her bad luck. In reality, she was a priestess of Loviatar, and had been building a cult to the Maiden of Pain in the city for sometime, having sacrificed her husbands for her dark goddess. She had raised her children in this fashion, and this was to be expected of Alexis as well. When Alexis learned the truth in 1361, she rejected this path and was imprisoned in the basement, forced to watch as her mother and her sisters made sport of bringing home poor and destitute individuals, and torturing them to death.

Alexis escaped later that year, living off the streets for awhile. It was here she met her sister, Sarah, who was also homeless, though they did not realize they were sisters as the time. In the winter, their father returned to Waterdeep and took them in, revealed the truth of their lineage, and they lived as a family through the winter months. In the spring of 1362, they were able to successfully expose Cassandra’s wrong doings to the world, and though her mother escaped, many of her followers were arrested or killed.

Angelina was Alexis’s first love, and she learned much from the woman. They traveled throughout The Sword Coast, until in 1369, when her mother tracked them down, and despite their resistance, she was able to kill Angelina, and defeat Alexis. She proceeded to torture Alexis, delighting in causing her pain with a green-steel whip, disfiguring her body and scarring her face to the point where she was unrecognizable. She told Alexis that she was leaving her alive so that she could suffer more, and left.

Alexis made her way to Arabel in 1370, where she became an adventurer, continuing her study of magic, and searching for a way to cure her physical deformity. She learned how to forge weapons and armor from the dwarves of the Anvilsmasher clan, and fell in love with a young man, Raylan, who aspired to be a knight. They were destined to live happily ever after, but he perished in the Shadovar assault that destroyed the Temple of Sune. Her sister Sarah arrived in the city shortly after that.

She made a reputation as an enchanter, both in mastering the school of magic, and in enchanting items, which she had a great passion for. Her body was eventually restored via a druidic ritual, where she became much more comfortable and open. She lived for several months in Highmoon where she learned ring making, lived in a vineyard for a while, briefly rose to the head of The Violet Flame, until she was removed after some political shenanigans by one of the guild’s original founders, joined The War Wizards, served with different members of various Triadic faiths in their campaigns against the Zhentarium and in raids into Tilverton, and even met Khelben Blackstaff once (for which she later painted a painting of the irritated look he had on his face the entire time of their meeting). She assisted with the planning for the eventual Stonehaven settlement, and fell in and out of love many times.

Alexis and Sarah left Arabel in 1376, after the destruction of The Violet Flame by The Whispers, because Alexis had become pregnant with the child of a demon, who Alexis thought had reformed, but turned out to have still been in the service of Mephistopheles. She reunited with her father, and gave birth to her son in 1377, who she named Alexander. The four of them traveled back to Arabel later that year, so that her sister could quietly bear witness to the opening of Brightwater Hall. They lived in an apartment in Immersea, above a tavern, where she could discretely raise her son and continue to study magic, and occasionally adventure.

At some point after her return to Cormyr, she met Serra Everjoy, fell in love, and began splitting her time between Immersea and Highmoon. She conceived a child with Serra, and in 1381, gave birth to a daughter, Anastasia.

In 1382, after the assassination of Azoun V, she re-joined The War Wizards, and served honorably in the War of the Broken Crown. After the demise of the lich and the coronation of Queen Tanalasta Obarskyr, she resigned her position and returned to retirement. She sold the apartment in Immersea, moved to Highmoon, and opened a trading store near The Cups, which she named Ironston Imports. She lets her father run the day to day operations of the shop, as she splits time between raising her children and continuing her studies into magic.

Personality Profile

Alexis is curious, speaks her mind, and isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers. She tends to let others talk, and prefers to listen when possible. She loves books and learning, and believes that magic can be the solution to most problems, and feels that most people don’t let her think outside the box. She has poise and manners, but no grace. She cares deeply for others, and goes out of her way to help people when she can, which would often get her in trouble, as she tends to throw herself into her work and overextend herself.

Now in retirement, she has a more relaxed attitude, confident that if she cannot solve a problem, her friends and family can. She’s moved from wanting to be a respected wizard, to wanting to be a good mother and wife.
